When I started looking for candy costumes, found that these could mean candy corn costumes, or candy as in M&M, Skittles, Mars and the like, or it could be candy striper costumes.
A candy corn costume is a natural extension to Halloween as the colors of the candy corn are so synonymous to Halloween. And M&M, Mars and the like are candy that people like.
A candy striper started in the 1940′s. and was traditionally a young, female hospital volunteer. The name came about due to the candy cane look of the red and white-striped pinafores that the volunteers wore.
